St. Lucia is located in the Caribbean and is the second largest of the Windward Islands. Its closest neighbours are St. Vincent - 21 miles to the South, Martinique - 24 miles to the North and Barbados -100 miles to the South East.
The island is 27 miles (44 km) long and 14 miles (22 km) wide, covering an area of 238 sq miles (approx. 616 km).
The population is currently estimated at 166,312.
The official language is English; however a French-based Patois is widely spoken among St. Lucians.

There are 2 airports in St. Lucia. The smaller of the two, George F.L. Charles Airport (formerly known as Vigie Airport) is located in Castries in the North of the island, while Hewannora International is located in Vieux Fort in the South.
Driving
We drive on the left-hand side of the road. Visitors are required to
have a temporary driver’s license, which can be obtained from
the Immigration Office at the airports or directly from a car rental
company. A valid driver's license is required.
St. Lucia is on Atlantic Standard Time which is four (4) hours behind Greenwich Mean Time (GMT) and one (1) hour ahead of Eastern Standard Time (EST). Daylight saving time is not observed therefore, between October to April, St. Lucia is four (4) hours behind GMT while in April to October it is five (5) hours behind.
Hot, tropical climate tempered by cooling trade winds throughout most of the year. St. Lucia experiences one wet and one dry season annually. The rainy (wet) season runs roughly from June to November and the dry season from December to May. The average temperature year-round ranges from 70?F– 90?F (21?C - 32?C). December and January are the coolest months while June thru August are the hottest.
Electricity is 240 volts 50 cycles (Hz) and a square three-pin plug is used (same as in the United Kingdom). Adapters and converters are available at most hotels.
